Florida Senate - 2014 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 84 Ì402122`Î402122 LEGISLATIVE ACTION Senate . House Comm: RCS . 09/24/2013 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Domestic Security (Evers) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete everything after the enacting clause 4 and insert: 5 Section 1. Paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (10) of 6 section 1009.21, Florida Statutes, are amended, present 7 paragraphs (c) through (k) of that subsection are redesignated 8 as paragraphs (d) through (l), respectively, and a new paragraph 9 (c) is added to that subsection, to read: 10 1009.21 Determination of resident status for tuition 11 purposes.—Students shall be classified as residents or 12 nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition in 13 postsecondary educational programs offered by charter technical 14 career centers or career centers operated by school districts, 15 in Florida College System institutions, and in state 16 universities. 17 (10) The following persons shall be classified as residents 18 for tuition purposes: 19 (a) Active duty members of the Armed ForcesServicesof the 20 United States residing or stationed in this state, their 21 spouses, and dependent children, and active drilling members of 22 the Florida National Guard. 23 (b) Active duty members of the Armed ForcesServicesof the 24 United States and their spouses and dependents attending a 25 Florida College System institution or state university within 50 26 miles of the military establishment where they are stationed, if 27 such military establishment is within a county contiguous to 28 Florida. 29 (c) Honorably discharged veterans of the Armed Forces of 30 the United States, including the National Guard and reserve 31 components thereof, who physically reside in this state while 32 enrolled in an institution of higher education. 33 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014. 34 35 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 36 And the title is amended as follows: 37 Delete everything before the enacting clause 38 and insert: 39 A bill to be entitled 40 An act relating to resident status for tuition 41 purposes; amending s. 1009.21, F.S.; providing 42 criteria for veterans of the Armed Forces of the 43 United States, including the National Guard and 44 reserve components thereof, to qualify as residents 45 for tuition purposes; providing an effective date.
