Florida Senate - 2020 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT Bill No. SB 584 Ì221444ÅÎ221444 LEGISLATIVE ACTION Senate . House . . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Health Policy (Berman) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment 2 3 Delete lines 30 - 57 4 and insert: 5 4. The membership of the council must reflect the ethnic 6 and gender diversity of this state. 7 (b)Two of the members appointed to the council must be8physicians who supervise physician assistants in their practice.9 Members shall be appointed to terms of 4 years, except that of 10 the initial appointments, two members shall be appointed to 11 terms of 2 years, two members shall be appointed to terms of 3 12 years, and one member shall be appointed to a term of 4 years, 13 as established by rule of the boards. Council members may not 14 serve more than two consecutive terms. The council shall 15 annually elect a chairperson from among its members. 16 Section 2. Paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (9) of 17 section 459.022, Florida Statutes, are amended to read: 18 459.022 Physician assistants.— 19 (9) COUNCIL ON PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS.—The Council on 20 Physician Assistants is created within the department. 21 (a) The council shall consist of five members appointed as 22 follows: 23 1. The chairperson of the Board of Medicine shall appoint 24 one memberthreememberswho is a physician and memberare25physicians and membersof the Board of Medicine who supervises.26One of the physicians must supervisea physician assistant in 27 the physician’s practice. 28 2. The chairperson of the Board of Osteopathic Medicine 29 shall appoint one member who is a physician andamember of the 30 Board of Osteopathic Medicine who supervises a physician 31 assistant in the physician’s practice. 32 3. The State Surgeon General or her or his designee shall 33 appoint threeafully licensed physician assistantsassistant34 licensed under chapter 458 or this chapter. 35 4. The membership of the council must reflect the ethnic 36 and gender diversity of this state.
