A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to screening tests for newborns; amending
3s. 383.14, F.S.; authorizing the Department of Health to
4collect Medicaid payments from specified health care
5benefit providers for newborn screening tests; providing
6an effective date.

8Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Paragraph (i) is added to subsection (3) of
11section 383.14, Florida Statutes, to read:
12 383.14 Screening for metabolic disorders, other hereditary
13and congenital disorders, and environmental risk factors.-
14 (3) DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH; POWERS AND DUTIES.-The
15department shall administer and provide certain services to
16implement the provisions of this section and shall:
17 (i) Have the authority to collect payment, at the maximum
18established Medicaid reimbursement rate associated with the
19performance of newborn screening tests, from health care
20insurers, health maintenance organizations, and other health
21care providers.

23All provisions of this subsection must be coordinated with the
24provisions and plans established under this chapter, chapter
25411, and Pub. L. No. 99-457.
26 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
