6 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators have long been |
7 | recognized for their tradition of excellence in all |
8 | intercollegiate sports, and |
9 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Women's Swimming and |
10 | Diving Team has continued this tradition of athletic excellence, |
11 | achieved and maintained through their hard work, determination, |
12 | and a team-first attitude, and |
13 | WHEREAS, the Florida Gators last won the national title in |
14 | 1982 in the inaugural NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving |
15 | Championships, and |
16 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Women's Swimming and |
17 | Diving Team on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at the Boilermaker |
18 | Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Indiana, scored 382 points, |
19 | beating Stanford University by 2.5 points in the second-closest |
20 | win in the history of the competition, and |
21 | WHEREAS, on the way to the team victory, twelve student- |
22 | athletes under Head Swimming Coach Gregg Troy earned All-America |
23 | status, shattering five Florida records and earning two national |
24 | titles, and |
25 | WHEREAS, Head Coach Gregg Troy was named 2010 NCAA Women's |
26 | Coach of the Year, and |
27 | WHEREAS, under Head Coach Gregg Troy and Coaches Donnie |
28 | Craine, Pete Knox, Anthony Nesty, Leah Martindale Stancil, and |
29 | Martyn Wilby, the University of Florida Women's Swimming and |
30 | Diving Team came together to form a championship team, with |
31 | Coach Troy remarking, "[t]his really was a team effort, and |
32 | there was no room for error," NOW, THEREFORE, |

34 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

37 | That the House of Representatives salutes the University of |
38 | Florida Women's Swimming and Diving Team for winning the 2010 |
39 | National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I |
40 | Championships, its second national title in the history of the |
41 | University of Florida. |
42 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
43 | presented to the University of Florida and to each coach and |
44 | member of the University of Florida Women's Swimming and Diving |
45 | Team as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
