    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution encouraging the donation of surplus fire
    3         equipment and materials to Florida’s volunteer fire
    4         departments.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, about 80 percent of the fire departments in the
    7  United States are manned by volunteers, and
    8         WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials have been
    9  donated to countries overseas by municipal and other fire
   10  departments, and
   11         WHEREAS, the expenses of volunteer fire departments in this
   12  state could be lessened by almost half by such donations, and
   13         WHEREAS, the equipment and materials paid for by taxpayers
   14  should be donated to sister fire departments in this state, and
   15         WHEREAS, the City of Hallandale Beach, the Broward County
   16  League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities, the United
   17  States Conference of Mayors, and the National League of Cities
   18  have adopted resolutions encouraging the donation of surplus
   19  fire equipment and materials to domestic volunteer fire
   20  departments, NOW, THEREFORE,

   22  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   24         That the Florida Senate strongly encourages the donation of
   25  surplus fire equipment and materials to Florida’s volunteer fire
   26  departments.
