    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to air-conditioning in inmate housing;
    3         creating s. 944.092, F.S.; providing requirements for
    4         air-conditioning in inmate housing units of the
    5         Department of Corrections; specifying a source of
    6         funding; providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Section 944.092, Florida Statutes, is created to
   11  read:
   12         944.092 Air-conditioning in inmate housing.—
   13         (1) Each state correctional institution shall provide a
   14  portable air conditioner or air-cooling system in each inmate
   15  housing unit adequate in size and number to each dormitory or
   16  sleeping area and shall maintain same in good working order at
   17  all times.
   18         (2) Funds for the purchase and maintenance of the portable
   19  air conditioners or air-cooling systems required by subsection
   20  (1) shall be provided from funds appropriated to the department
   21  in the General Appropriations Act.
   22         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2024.
