Florida Senate - 2014 SB 354 By Senator Abruzzo 25-00331-14 2014354__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to state university fee exemptions; 3 providing a short title; amending s. 1009.25, F.S.; 4 providing an exemption from the payment of tuition for 5 students enrolled in specified foreign language 6 courses offered at a state university under certain 7 circumstances; providing for future expiration unless 8 reviewed and reenacted by the Legislature; providing 9 an effective date. 10 11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 12 13 Section 1. This act may be cited as the “Student Global 14 Economic Education Act.” 15 Section 2. Subsection (3) is added to section 1009.25, 16 Florida Statutes, to read: 17 1009.25 Fee exemptions.— 18 (3) A student who has taken an initial semester course in 19 Mandarin or Portuguese at a state university and has received a 20 grade of “B” or higher for the course is exempt from the payment 21 of tuition for each additional course in the same language in 22 which the student is enrolled at a state university. This 23 subsection expires July 1, 2018, unless reviewed and saved from 24 repeal through reenactment by the Legislature before that date. 25 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2014.
