    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to sheriff budgets; amending s. 30.50,
    3         F.S.; authorizing a sheriff to transfer funds among
    4         any of the budget appropriations for specified
    5         expenditures; providing an effective date.

    7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    8  
    9         Section 1. Subsection (4) of section 30.50, Florida
   10  Statutes, is amended to read:
   11         30.50 Payment of salaries and expenses.—
   12         (4) The sheriff shall keep necessary budget accounts and
   13  records, and shall charge all paid bills and payrolls to the
   14  proper budget accounts. The reserve for contingencies, or any
   15  part thereof, may be transferred to any of the budget
   16  appropriations, at in the discretion of the sheriff. In
   17  addition, the sheriff may, in his or her discretion without
   18  approval of the board of county commissioners or the budget
   19  commission, transfer funds among any of the budget categories in
   20  s. 30.49(2)(c). With the approval of the board of county
   21  commissioners, or of the budget commission if there is a budget
   22  commission in the county, the budget may be amended as provided
   23  for county budgets in s. 129.06(2).
   24         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2017.
