Florida Senate - 2018 SB 1578 By Senator Stewart 13-01348-18 20181578__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to student assessments; amending s. 3 1008.22, F.S.; requiring the Commissioner of Education 4 to identify concordant and comparative scores on 5 specified Spanish language college admission tests 6 that satisfy certain graduation requirements; 7 providing an effective date. 8 9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10 11 Section 1. Subsections (9) and (10) of section 1008.22, 12 Florida Statutes, are amended to read: 13 1008.22 Student assessment program for public schools.— 14 (9) CONCORDANT SCORES.—The Commissioner of Education must 15 identify scores on the SAT,andACT, the Spanish language 16 College Assessment and Admission Test (PEAU), and the revised 17 version of the Spanish language University Admission Test (PAA), 18 that if achieved satisfy the graduation requirement that a 19 student pass the grade 10 statewide, standardized Reading 20 assessment or, upon implementation, the grade 10 ELA assessment. 21 The commissioner may identify concordant scores on assessments 22 other than the SAT,andACT, PEAU, and PAA. If the content or 23 scoring procedures change for the grade 10 Reading assessment 24 or, upon implementation, the grade 10 ELA assessment, new 25 concordant scores must be determined. If new concordant scores 26 are not timely adopted, the last-adopted concordant scores 27 remain in effect until such time as new scores are adopted. The 28 state board shall adopt concordant scores in rule. 29 (10) COMPARATIVE SCORES FOR END-OF-COURSE (EOC) 30 ASSESSMENT.— 31 (a) The Commissioner of Education must identify: 32 1. One or more comparative scores for the Algebra I EOC 33 assessment. If the content or scoring procedures change for the 34 EOC assessment, new comparative scores must be determined. If 35 new comparative scores are not timely adopted, the last-adopted 36 comparative scores remain in effect until such time as new 37 scores are adopted; and.38 2. Comparative scores on the PEAU and the PAA assessments 39 for the EOC assessments required under paragraph (3)(b). If the 40 content or scoring procedures change for an EOC assessment, new 41 comparative scores must be determined. If new comparative scores 42 are not timely adopted, the last-adopted comparative scores 43 remain in effect until such time as new scores are adopted. 44 (b) The state board shall adopt comparative scores in rule. 45 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2018.
