Florida Senate - 2015 SR 1584 By Senators Joyner and Thompson 19-01919A-15 20151584__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing March 26, 2015, as “The 3 Links, Incorporated, Day at the Capitol” and 4 applauding the organization’s efforts to create a 5 better quality of life for the residents of this 6 state. 7 8 WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, established in 1946 with 9 a mission and purpose of friendship through community service, 10 is composed of more than 12,000 members located in 41 states, 11 the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, 12 and 13 WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated, are women of 14 African ancestry who are well educated, highly skilled and 15 trained, and capable of assisting others to overcome adverse 16 conditions and fostering remedies that are critical to the well 17 being of society, such as science, technology, engineering, and 18 mathematics (STEM) education and its benefit to African-American 19 youths, and 20 WHEREAS, working through its five functional facets — 21 International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services, 22 The Arts, Services to Youths, and Health and Human Services — 23 The Links, Incorporated, relies heavily on the expertise of its 24 professional members, including computer analysts, engineers, 25 scientists, statisticians, and educators, who work in 26 collaboration with other specialists to have a greater impact on 27 society through relevant and creative initiatives, and 28 WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, is promoting the 29 eradication of racial disparities in public safety, enhanced 30 student achievement in STEM educational programs, and increased 31 funding for mentoring programs that serve at-risk youths; 32 encouraging continued funding for financial assistance and 33 educational opportunities for minority students; and promoting 34 awareness and providing support for the national “Black Lives 35 Matter” movement, and 36 WHEREAS, a host of “Links” representing the 19 Florida 37 chapters of the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, have 38 converged on the Capitol to show their solidarity and support 39 for the eradication of racial disparities with regard to public 40 safety; enhanced student achievement in STEM education; 41 increased funding for mentoring programs for at-risk youths, 42 including programs that combat childhood obesity; and continued 43 financial assistance and educational opportunities for minority 44 students, NOW, THEREFORE, 45 46 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 47 48 That the Senate welcomes members of The Links, 49 Incorporated, from the Southern Area, applauds their passion for 50 STEM education and career readiness initiatives, and for 51 mentoring and providing financial assistance to at-risk youth, 52 and recognizes March 26, 2015, as “The Links, Incorporated, Day 53 at the Capitol.” 54 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution with 55 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Eneid A. 56 Francis, 18th Southern Area Director of The Links, Incorporated, 57 as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
