Florida Senate - 2023 (NP) SR 1740 By Senator Collins 14-03835-23 20231740__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 19, 2023, as the 3 inaugural “Keiser University Day” in Florida and 4 celebrating the university’s nearly 50 years of 5 providing quality education as a vital institution of 6 higher education, serving a diverse student population 7 that positively impacts this state and the global 8 economy. 9 10 WHEREAS, Keiser University offers more than 100 doctoral, 11 master’s, bachelor’s, and associate degree programs in many of 12 Florida’s critical workforce sectors, including nursing, health 13 care, information technology, and transportation and logistics, 14 as well as highly specialized fields such as cybersecurity, 15 digital forensics and incident response, artificial 16 intelligence, and homeland security, and 17 WHEREAS, Keiser University, with more than 100,000 alumni 18 and 3,800 employees, has become Florida’s largest private, not 19 for-profit university, serving approximately 20,000 students 20 annually, and 21 WHEREAS, Keiser University ranks as one of the top 22 institutions in the nation in providing upward social mobility, 23 earning the No. 1 ranking in that category from U.S. News & 24 World Report in 2023, and 25 WHEREAS, Keiser University is one of the largest producers 26 of nursing professionals in this state, with more than 3,200 27 nursing graduates in the past 5 years, and 28 WHEREAS, 20 percent of Keiser University’s students are 29 active-duty service members or veterans of the United States 30 Armed Forces, or are their family members, and 31 WHEREAS, Keiser University, with a 31 percent Hispanic 32 student population, is recognized by the United States 33 Department of Education as a Hispanic-serving institution and is 34 a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and 35 Universities, and 36 WHEREAS, 67 percent of Keiser University’s graduates 37 annually complete degrees in the science, technology, 38 engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and health care fields, and 39 WHEREAS, 70 percent of Keiser University’s student body is 40 female, and approximately 85 percent of Keiser students stay in 41 Florida after graduation, and 42 WHEREAS, Keiser University programs support nontraditional 43 students, including first-generation students, parents, 44 caregivers, veterans, and students who work full time or part 45 time, NOW, THEREFORE, 46 47 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 48 49 That April 19, 2023, is recognized as the inaugural “Keiser 50 University Day” and that the university’s nearly 50 years of 51 providing quality education as a vital institution of higher 52 education and serving a diverse student population is celebrated 53 in Florida. 54 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Keiser University’s impressive 55 growth since its humble beginnings in 1977 and its positive 56 economic impact on both this state and the global economy is 57 recognized. 58 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Keiser University Chancellor 59 and CEO Arthur Keiser, Ph.D., Vice Chancellor Belinda Keiser, 60 and the membership of the Keiser University Board of Trustees 61 are recognized for their enduring commitment to providing 62 students with access to a superior education. 63 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Keiser 64 University faculty are recognized for their leadership in the 65 classroom and online learning and their charitable service in 66 this state.
