Florida Senate - 2014 (NP) SR 1742 By Senator Montford 3-03751-14 20141742__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution expressing appreciation for the sister 3 state relationship between the State of Florida and 4 the Republic of China (Taiwan). 5 6 WHEREAS, Florida maintains and values its sister-state 7 relationship with the Republic of China, and 8 WHEREAS, April 10, 2014, marks the 35th anniversary of 9 enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act, codifying in law the 10 basis for continued commercial and cultural relations between 11 the United States and the Republic of China, and 12 WHEREAS, the Republic of China is important to the 13 interests of Florida as a business partner in East Asia, and 14 WHEREAS, the cultural and educational cooperation between 15 Florida and the Republic of China is growing rapidly and is the 16 sixth largest source of international students traveling to the 17 United States, and 18 WHEREAS, to support bilateral academic opportunities 19 between Florida and the Republic of China, the annual Florida 20 Taiwan Higher Education Conference enhances cultural interchange 21 through faculty and student exchanges, joint research 22 collaboration, and academic interaction, and 23 WHEREAS, the Foundation for International Cooperation in 24 Higher Education of Taiwan and the Board of Governors of the 25 State University System of Florida have worked together to 26 strengthen education and learning opportunities, as well as 27 academic publication endeavors, between Florida and the Republic 28 of China, NOW, THEREFORE, 29 30 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 31 32 That the Florida Senate expresses its appreciation for the 33 sister-state relationship between the State of Florida and the 34 Republic of China (Taiwan). 35 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be 36 presented to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Miami 37 and the Office of the Governor of the State of Florida as a 38 tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
