Florida Senate - 2020 (NP) SR 1890 By Senator Berman 31-00613A-20 20201890__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing March 2020 as “Colorectal 3 Cancer Awareness Month” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, colorectal cancer is currently the third leading 6 cause of cancer death in the United States among both men and 7 women, and 8 WHEREAS, in 2019, approximately 101,420 people in the 9 United States were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 10 approximately 51,020 people died in 2019 from the disease, and 11 WHEREAS, according to the American Cancer Society, 11,310 12 Floridians were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and 3,700 13 Floridians died from the disease, and 14 WHEREAS, the colorectal cancer survival rate could increase 15 if adults older than 45 years of age were regularly screened to 16 discover the cancer in its earlier stages, and 17 WHEREAS, increasing awareness of and education concerning 18 colorectal cancer leads to significant progress in both 19 preventing and overcoming the disease, as the majority of cases 20 have proven to be both treatable and survivable, NOW, THEREFORE, 21 22 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 23 24 That March 2020 is recognized as “Colorectal Cancer 25 Awareness Month” in Florida.
