Florida Senate - 2011 (NP) SR 2082 By Senator Dean 3-02975A-11 20112082__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing Citrus High School on the 3 occasion of its 100th anniversary celebration and 4 congratulating the students, faculty, administration, 5 and staff of Citrus High School on achieving and 6 maintaining an “A” grade from the Florida Department 7 of Education. 8 9 WHEREAS, the history of Citrus High School can be traced 10 back to the late 1800s to a wood-frame school building in 11 Inverness, where a teacher taught chart class to sixth grade, 12 and 13 WHEREAS, construction of the first Citrus High School was 14 authorized in 1911 and a two-story brick schoolhouse was built 15 at a cost of $12,560 on Citrus Avenue, and 16 WHEREAS, while the new school building was originally 17 intended to serve only high school students, it served the 18 entire student population in grades 1 through 12, and 19 WHEREAS, in 1920, the Board of Public Instruction approved 20 construction of a new school on the corner of Main Street and 21 Line Avenue, which was completed in 1921 but was abandoned a 22 short while later due to structural problems, with classes 23 resuming in the original building, and 24 WHEREAS, in 1930, a new school building was completed on 25 the site of the failed structure and the school received 26 accreditation from the State Board of Education as a 4-year high 27 school, and 28 WHEREAS, in 1985, an electrical fire destroyed most of the 29 structure, prompting a rebuilding project that continued until 30 1992, and 31 WHEREAS, in 2008, Citrus High School received its first “A” 32 school designation from the Department of Education and is once 33 again designated an “A” school for the 2010-2011 school year, 34 with a current enrollment of 1,556 students, NOW, THEREFORE, 35 36 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 37 38 That we recognize Citrus High School on the occasion of its 39 100th anniversary celebration and congratulate the students, 40 faculty, administration, and staff of Citrus High School on 41 achieving and maintaining an “A” grade from the Florida 42 Department of Education.
