BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
AN ACT
To
amend an Act creating the Board of Commissioners of Jeff Davis County, approved
March 25, 1958 (Ga. L. 1958, p. 3288), as amended, particularly by an Act
approved March 21, 1989 (Ga. L. 1989, p. 3998), so as to modify provisions
relating to the scheduling of meetings of the board of commissioners; to provide
an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other
purposes.
BE
IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:
SECTION
1.
An
Act creating the Board of Commissioners of Jeff Davis County, approved March 25,
1958 (Ga. L. 1958, p. 3288), as amended, particularly by an Act approved March
21, 1989 (Ga. L. 1989, p. 3998), is amended by striking Section 6 and inserting
a new Section 6 as follows:
"SECTION
6.
The
board of commissioners shall have the authority to set the dates and times of
their regular meeting or meetings. The first meeting of the board of
commissioners shall take place at the offices of the board of commissioners at
6:00 P.M. on the third Monday of January of each year or as soon thereafter as
possible. At the first meeting the board shall set the dates and times of the
regular meeting or meetings for the year and shall elect one of the members as
chairperson and one as vice chairperson. Any chairperson or vice chairperson
shall hold his or her office until his or her successor is elected, and nothing
in this Act shall prevent the reelection of any chairperson or vice chairperson.
Upon due legal notice being given, the board of commissioners may call, hold,
and schedule special meetings and workshops at such times, dates, and places as
they determine necessary or appropriate. The board of commissioners may
reschedule the time, date, and place of regular and special meetings when
required due to an emergency, necessity, or other extenuating circumstance,
provided that legal public notice is given."
SECTION
2.
This
Act shall become effective on July 1, 2011.
SECTION
3.
All
laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
