A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Southwest DeKalb High School girls basketball team on winning their second consecutive Class AAAA State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Southwest DeKalb High School girls basketball team earned the top ranking in the state again through perseverance, determination, and dedication, by defeating Fayette County High School 59-46; and

WHEREAS, after winning the first state championship title for girls basketball in Southwest DeKalb High School history in 2008, the Lady Panthers triumphed over their opponents once again to win the 2009 State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team, and their superb offensive and defensive talents; and

WHEREAS, the team's stellar season was achieved due to the astute direction of Head Coach Kathy Richey-Walton and assistant coaches Terri Montgomery, Joyce Paul, and Lisa Johnson; and

WHEREAS, great leadership was demonstrated by team captains Kajuanna Rivers, Jamesha Blake, and Kayla Lewis and managers Toni Edwards, Glenda Dowdy, and Demetrius Bivens; and

WHEREAS, the champion team was composed of talented athletes Jamesha Blake, Chancie Dunn, Olivia Gibbs, Percephone Goodwin, Jada Hambrick, Kayla Lewis, Laquisha Lewis, Chynna Miley, Kadeja Moton, Nicole Razor, Alondra Rivers, Kajuanna Rivers, Kala White, Ciera Williams, and Jada Williams; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper to call them champions.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Southwest DeKalb High School girls basketball team on winning their second consecutive Class AAAA State Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the players and coaches of the Southwest DeKalb High School girls basketball team.
