A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Booker T. Wade, Sr.; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Booker T. Wade, Sr.; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade was born on March 16, 1930, in Valdosta, Georgia, the beloved son of the late Charlie Wade and Della Jackson; and

WHEREAS, known as "Spider Wade" by his teammates and friends, Mr. Wade attended South Street Elementary and Dasher High School in Valdosta, where he was an acclaimed football player and received a merit scholarship; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade was united in love and marriage to his high school sweetheart, Harriet Scott, and their 58-year union blessed them with six remarkable children; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty for two years with the United States Army and for 15 years with the United States Air Force, proudly and selflessly sacrificing to protect America's ideals, safety, and democracy; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade was an ardent supporter of the democratic process and strongly advocated and encouraged others to utilize their precious and constitutional right to vote and to actively participate in the political process; and

WHEREAS, he was honored to cast his vote in the 2008 presidential election, proudly participating in the election of this nation's 44th President, the Honorable Barack Obama; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Wade is survived by his devoted wife and a host of beloved relatives, including his granddaughter, the gentlewoman from the 39th District, Representative Alisha Morgan; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated family man, Mr. Wade will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Booker T. Wade, Sr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Booker T. Wade, Sr.
