A RESOLUTION


Honoring Governor Sonny Perdue for his service to the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, George Ervin "Sonny" Perdue of Bonaire has since January of 2003 served with great ability and distinction as the 81st Governor of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, on January 13, 2010, Governor Perdue will appear before a joint session of the Georgia Senate and House of Representatives to deliver the final State of the State Address of his Governorship; and

WHEREAS, he served his country with honor as a Captain in the United States Air Force and went on to become a successful and well respected businessman and participant in civic and church affairs before beginning his political career; and

WHEREAS, Governor Perdue was elected to the Georgia Senate in 1990, attaining the office of President Pro Tempore and serving in that body until he began his first successful campaign for Governor and was elected in 2002; and

WHEREAS, he has stated that despite all of his many successes, he is most proud to be a devoted husband to his lovely wife Mary and the loving father of four children and grandfather of ten grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is only fitting and proper to recognize this distinguished native son of Georgia on the occasion of his final State of the State Address.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY that this body does hereby honor Governor Sonny Perdue, express to him its deep and abiding appreciation and gratitude for his long and faithful career of public service to the State of Georgia, and extend to him every best wish for his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to His Excellency, Governor Sonny Perdue.
