A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Southwest Airlines on its expansion into Atlanta and
Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the busiest in the world; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Southwest Airlines is the busiest passenger airline in the United States with
3,400 flights a day based in Dallas, Texas; and
WHEREAS,
Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport carried more than 89 million
passengers in 2010 and flights for the first six months of 2011 were up to 3.7
percent compared with 2010; and
WHEREAS,
following their acquisition of AirTran Airways, who have had a hub in Atlanta
for many years, Southwest will now service this state and region;
and
WHEREAS,
with their expansion of services on February 12, 2012 Atlanta will have access
to 15 new routes to airports like Baltimore, Chicago Midway, Denver, and Houston
and Austin, Texas: and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia and Fulton County are excited to connect with Southwest
Airlines, a network of 563 aircrafts and 73 destinations within the United
States; and
WHEREAS,
AirTran Airways employs more than 8,000 employees nationwide with 7,000 in
Atlanta alone, and operates a mainline fleet of more than 140 aircrafts, the
AirTran pilots, flight attendants, and mechanics are excited about joining
Southwest family; and
WHEREAS,
Southwest has built a reputation as the nation's most outstanding low fare
airline and one that Atlanta, Georgia is proud to have now servicing their
airport.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize and commend Southwest Airlines on its expansion into Atlanta
and extend their best wishes for continued success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Southwest
Airlines.
