A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the 2008 Child Fatality Review Committee of the Year from
Richmond County and inviting them to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Richmond County was recognized as having the 2008 Child Fatality Review
Committee of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
the Child Fatality Review Committee diligently set about its directives of
meeting every month to review cases, make recommendations to the Georgia Child
Fatality Review Panel, and initiate several prevention activities to reduce
child deaths and injuries; and
WHEREAS,
the committee received outstanding community support for the state's safe sleep
initiative, conducted a thorough review of case files and submitted reports of
their findings to the Georgia Child Fatality Review Panel, and initiated their
own campaign to educate the community on safe sleep habits for all infants
through projects which included parenting workshops, story time on good sleep
habits, and newsletters; and
WHEREAS,
the committee used their own funds for the materials and resources of their safe
sleep project, which has resulted in a reduction of sleep-related infant deaths
in Richmond County; and
WHEREAS,
this committee went above and beyond the call of duty by creating a new Asthma
Coalition, which created scene investigation cards for coroners and law
enforcement to distribute to educate families involved in an asthma-related
incident and sends information to the school of any child seen in the emergency
room for asthma-related complications in an attempt to ensure follow up of
treatment plans; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with
particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary
committee.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize the Child Fatality Review Committee of the
Year for 2008 from Richmond County, commend its members for their outstanding
service to their community and this state, and invite them to be recognized by
the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker
