A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Steve Holman; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Steve Holman was born on March 5, 1954, in Lawrence, Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Mary Jane and is blessed with two remarkable children, Steve, Jr., and Scott, and one adored grandson, Connor; and

WHEREAS, Steve Holman started his first radio job as a 17-year-old high school senior at WCCM, where he was able to work under sportscasting icon Curt Gowdy; and

WHEREAS, Steve Holman has been behind the microphone on the Atlanta Hawks Radio Network for 27 seasons; and

WHEREAS, also known as the "Voice of the Hawks," Steve Holman entered this season having broadcasted 1,890 consecutive Hawks games on the radio, including playoffs dating back to March of 1989; and

WHEREAS, Steve Holman has reached many milestones in his career, including having announced well over 2,000 Hawks contests overall, including his 1,000th straight Hawks radio broadcast on February 18, 2001, and his 1,900th consecutive game on January 9 in New Jersey; and

WHEREAS, he has announced Hawks games from around the globe, including Russia, England, Puerto Rico, and Canada; and

WHEREAS, Steve Holman has been involved in the NBA since the early 1970s when he was the broadcast assistant to the Boston Celtics legend Johnny Most and had his first experience calling the action for an NBA game in 1975; and

WHEREAS, he has been a fixture on Atlanta radio since 1980, when he first arrived to work on Falcons football and Atlanta Chiefs soccer; and

WHEREAS, he has been honored with numerous awards for sports reporting including the Georgia Associated Press Award for his Hawks broadcast coverage, and he was recently inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, this remarkable man has diligently and conscientiously dedicated his time, talents, and energy to uplifting and entertaining listeners to his radio shows for over three decades.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Steve Holman for all of his sports broadcasting accomplishments, commend him for being inducted into the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, and wish him more success for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Steve Holman.
