A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. David "Junior" Penamon, Jr., for his outstanding public service; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. David "Junior" Penamon, Jr., has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, this dedicated public servant has devoted numerous hours of his time, talents, and energy to improving the lives of his neighbors as a member of the Culloden City Council; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Penamon has devoted over 30 years of service to the Culloden City Council, where he oversaw many improvements for the city, including the building of the town's welcome center, park, recreation center, and the first African American cemetery in Culloden, King Hill Cemetery; and

WHEREAS, his leadership and guidance were instrumental in the Governor's Project Competition, a program designed for small towns to improve themselves; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Penamon was the first African American to serve on the Culloden City Council and one of the first two African Americans to serve on the Monroe County Board of Education when he began his term in January, 1971; and

WHEREAS, born and raised in Upson County, Georgia, Mr. Penamon worked at Pearson Milling Company until his retirement in 1976 and serves as a deacon at St. Phillip A.M.E. Church; and

WHEREAS, he has been united in love and marriage to his supportive wife, Sanders, for 64 wonderful years and has been blessed with the love of six children; and
WHEREAS, although his presence on the Culloden City Council will be sorely missed upon his retirement, Mr. Penamon's influence will be present for future generations of Culloden residents; and

WHEREAS, it is fitting that this body express its appreciation to Mr. Penamon for the great credit he reflects on his community and this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. David "Junior" Penamon, Jr., for his outstanding service to the City of Culloden, recognize his many contributions to the Culloden City Council, and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. David "Junior" Penamon, Jr.
