A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Mark E. Arneson, National Commander of the Sons of the American Legion; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Mark E. Arneson has long been recognized by the citizens of this nation for the vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Arneson was elected National Commander at the 38th Annual National Convention of the Sons of the American Legion held in Louisville, Kentucky in August, 2009; and

WHEREAS, he earned a bachelor's degree from The Citadel and a master's degree from the University of Georgia, is a certified public accountant, and is assistant vice president in the corporate tax division of Oldcastle, Inc., one of the largest road construction and building product manufacturers in the United States; and

WHEREAS, a resident of Tucker, Georgia, Mr. Arneson is a member of Squadron 127 in Buford and has served in numerous leadership positions including Detachment Commander; and

WHEREAS, he began his service for the national organization in 1991 as alternate NEC and has gone on to serve as NEC, chairman of the National Americanism Commission, on the Citizens Flag Alliance, on the National Junior Shooting Sports Championship staff, and on the staff of the National Oratorical Competition; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Arneson served as Chairman of the Child Welfare Foundation Committee for two years, helping the organization earn a record level of donations in a year with $383,000 and crossing the $3 million total donation level; and

WHEREAS, he served as National Vice Commander for the Southern region and graduated from the 2008 National American Legion College; and

WHEREAS, the outstanding accomplishments and dedicated service of this distinguished Georgian is worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Mark E. Arneson for his efficient, effective, and unselfish public service to the Sons of the American Legion and congratulate him upon his selection as National Commander.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Mark E. Arneson.
