A RESOLUTION


Commending Chelsie Marie Restrepo; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Chelsie Marie Restrepo has shown by the example of her academic accomplishments and community service that the pursuit and attainment of excellence are within the reach of the students in this state; and

WHEREAS, a junior at Bacon County High School, this remarkable scholar has earned distinction through her superlative achievements and extracurricular activities; and

WHEREAS, a talented student athlete, Chelsie is a member of the Bacon County High School varsity softball team, a member of 4-H and Health Occupations Students of America, and serves as president of the Exchange Excel Club; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate, driven, and generous young woman, Chelsie organized a fundraising effort for a playground project for foster children and children in protective services with the Bacon County Department of Family and Children Services (DFACS); and

WHEREAS, Chelsie dedicated a year of her time, talents, and energy to creating and participating in fundraising projects such as competing in a weightlifting competition, selling blueberry buddies at the blueberry festival, and soliciting monetary and building material donations from local businesses, organizations, and residents; and

WHEREAS, in recognition for her commitment and dedicated service to improving the lives of Bacon County foster children, the playground was named "Chelsie's Playground" in her honor; and

WHEREAS, in November, 2009, she organized and coordinated a beauty pageant, Miss Winter Wonderland, to raise money for Bacon County DFACS to buy presents for foster children and children in protective services; and
WHEREAS, for the past four years, Chelsie has organized a shoe box Christmas for Bacon County DFACS, asking 4-H participants in fifth through twelfth grade to donate items for gift bags given out by DFACS at their annual holiday party for foster children; and

WHEREAS, Chelsie's selfless actions and generosity have brought great pride to her mother, Kim Manning, her classmates, her friends, and her community; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this bright and promising young citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily commend Chelsie Marie Restrepo for her spectacular scholastic endeavors and altruistic community service and express to her their most sincere best wishes for continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chelsie Marie Restrepo.
