A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Atlanta Dream owner Kathy Betty and inviting her to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Kathy Betty has long been recognized for the vital role she has played in leadership and her deep personal commitment to female athletics; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Betty earned a bachelor's degree in finance and computer sciences from the University of Alabama and Belmont College and was one of the first female partners with Ernst & Young; and

WHEREAS, she served as executive vice president and partner with Scott, Madden and Associates and formed her own successful incubator, the Tradewind Group, in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Betty's years of experience in business management and consulting have been invaluable as team owner of the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA team she purchased in October 2009, shortly after the franchise completed its second season in Atlanta; and

WHEREAS, determined to improve the lives of others both on and off the court, Ms. Betty serves as chairman and CEO of the Garry Betty Foundation and serves on the board of directors for the Alexander Tharpe Fund, the Georgia Institute of Technology, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlanta, and the Atlanta Tipoff Club; and

WHEREAS, her significant organizational and leadership talents, her remarkable patience and diplomacy, her keen sense of vision, and her business savvy and acumen have earned her the respect and admiration of her coaches, players, and competitors; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Ms. Kathy Betty for her efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated service to her community and the people of Atlanta; recognize her outstanding leadership as owner of the Atlanta Dream; and invite her to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Atlanta Dream owner Kathy Betty.
