A RESOLUTION


Honoring and celebrating the 75th birthday of Ms. Grace Sophia Francis Smith; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Ms. Grace Sophia Francis Smith was born on February 25, 1937, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, a beloved daughter of the late Barbara Watson; and

WHEREAS, she is a proud and shining example of enduring love and affection and has seen her progeny grow and flourish over a span of three descending generations; and

WHEREAS, she was united in love and marriage to United States Navy Seaman, Edgar Smith, in 1959 and was blessed with three remarkable children, Arlene, Eddie, and Sharon, six wonderful grandchildren, and one adored great-grandchild; and

WHEREAS, she attended Catholic schools and, since coming to the United States, has lived in Florida, Connecticut, New York, Texas, California, and Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Smith is proud of her Trinidadian heritage and equally proud to be a United States Citizen; and

WHEREAS, she has worked as an administrative assistant for the City of Odessa, a buyer for the Armed Forces Exchanges Stores, an executive assistant for Coca-Cola, and an elementary school paraprofessional for the Fulton County school system; and

WHEREAS, an active member in her community, Ms. Smith has served as the treasurer of Sun Valley Estates Home Owners Association; and

WHEREAS, a woman of deep and abiding faith, Ms. Smith has been a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for more than 20 years, continues her life in service to God by visiting and ministering to people in need, and remains young at heart through her active participation as a member of the usher board; and

WHEREAS, her culinary skills have delighted members of her family and friends for years with her highly renowned food from Trinidad; and

WHEREAS, she enjoys gardening, traveling, spending time with her family, and shopping, and she has a love for nourishing people with her cooking; and

WHEREAS, this distinguished gentlewoman has given inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern for her fellow citizens, and she possesses the vast wisdom which only comes through experience and the strength of character which is achieved through overcoming the many challenges of life; and

WHEREAS, she is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, understanding, and kindness, and by the example she has made of her life, she makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that she be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of her life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily commend Ms. Grace Sophia Francis Smith for her efficient, effective, unselfish, dedicated, and loving service to the members of her family and the citizens of her community, congratulate her on the occasion of her 75th birthday, and extend to her their most sincere best wishes for continued health and happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ms. Grace Sophia Francis Smith.
