RESOLUTION
Commending
the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, on their Leadership Conference; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Top Ladies of Distinction (TLOD), Inc., is an international, professional,
and humanitarian organization of over 3,000 dedicated and concerned women
representing a mélange of talents, skills, and resources;
and
WHEREAS,
the result of the inspiration of Major Ozell Dean, TLOD was established in 1964
in Tyler, Texas, when Mrs. Willie Lee Glass, Mrs. Lyndon Baines Johnson, and
Major Ozell Dean agreed to work cooperatively to help alleviate the myriad
problems confronting youth in their respective communities; and
WHEREAS,
their first meeting to establish policies and exacting governing laws of the
organization was held on June 4, 1964, and TLOD was chartered in the State of
Texas on September 8, 1964; and
WHEREAS,
the charter members were Mrs. Franchell Boswell, Mrs. Ina Bolton Brown, Mrs.
Augusta Cash Latham, Major Ozell Dean, Mrs. Willie Lee Glass, Mrs. LaVerne R.
Madlock, Mrs. Ruth Payne Smith, and Mrs. Georgia B. Presswood Nelson;
and
WHEREAS,
since its founding, the objectives of the organization have been expanded to
include not only a focus on Top Teens of America but also improving the status
of women, service to senior citizens, community beautification, and community
partnerships; and
WHEREAS,
all chapters of TLOD support NAACP, UNCF, NCNW, Sickle Cell, March of Dimes,
literacy programs, and awarding scholarships to graduating Top Teens;
and
WHEREAS,
TLOD is actively involved in monitoring the legislative, judicial, and executive
situations that affect the welfare of youth, senior citizens, women, the
community, and the family; and
WHEREAS,
the Raleigh chapter of the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., will host their 30th
Leadership Conference from March 14-18, 2012, in Raleigh, North Carolina;
and
WHEREAS,
it is fitting that this body express its appreciation for the great advancements
made by the Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc., over the past 30
years.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that members of this
body recognize the Top Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated, for the
organization's significant role in leading social change in America and extend
congratulations on the remarkable occasion of its 30th Leadership
Conference.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Top
Ladies of Distinction, Incorporated.
