RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Larry Campbell and inviting him to be recognized by the House
of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Larry Campbell was born on September 5, 1948, in Abbeville, South Carolina,
and graduated from Calhoun Falls High School in 1966, where he lettered in
football, basketball, baseball, and track; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Campbell earned a bachelor's degree in physical education from the
University of Georgia and has diligently and conscientiously devoted his time,
talents, and energy to challenging young athletes at Lincoln County High School
in Lincolnton, Georgia, for 39 years; and
WHEREAS,
since 1972, Mr. Campbell has served as Lincoln County High School's head
football coach, amassing an incredible record of 437-75-3 and winning 12 state
championships in 20 appearances; and
WHEREAS,
his teams were state runners-up eight times and hold 30 region titles and
maintain numerous records, including his 1978 team which broke the Georgia
consecutive win record with 38 and his 1991 team which broke it again with 44
consecutive wins; and
WHEREAS,
in 1997, Mr. Campbell became the youngest coach in the nation to win 300 games
and he has led 96 players to earn college scholarships; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Campbell has served as athletic director for Lincoln County High School
since 1975 and has inspired athletes on the track and baseball teams as a coach;
and
WHEREAS,
this talented coach has been recognized with numerous honors and awards
throughout his distinguished career, including the Shorty Doyle Award, the Macon
Touchdown Club Living Legend Award, and the Atlanta Touchdown Club's Wright
Bazemore Coach of the Year Award in 1989 and 2006; and
WHEREAS,
this faithful 39 year member of Lincolnton Baptist Church was inducted into the
National Sports Hall of Fame and the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and has
more wins than any other football coach in the State of Georgia and the second
highest in the nation; and
WHEREAS,
an avid farmer who enjoys raising cows and riding horses, Mr. Campbell is united
in love and marriage to his wife, Connie, and they have been blessed with two
children, Brian and Kelli, a son-in-law, Allen Robertson, and two remarkable
grandchildren, Campbell and Allie Drake; and
WHEREAS,
he brings out the superior athletic ability of his players and has served as a
role model and mentor to his teams and Mr. Campbell's many contributions to the
students of this state are worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Mr. Larry Campbell for his decades of service to the future
leaders of this state, commend his commitment to the student-athletes of
Georgia, and invite him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a
date and time to be designated by the Speaker of the House of
Representatives.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Larry
Campbell.
