A RESOLUTION


Honoring Marcia Anderson on the occasion of her promotion to Major General in the United States Army; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security relies on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives aside in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, Major General Marcia Anderson has served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Army, valiantly and courageously defending democracy and her fellow Americans; and

WHEREAS, Major General Marcia Anderson is the first African American woman to be promoted to Major General by the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, she has served as deputy commanding general for the Human Resources Command in central Kentucky and is moving to serve at the Office of the Chief at the Army Reserve; and

WHEREAS, Major General Anderson embodies the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater than herself, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments and sacrifices of this remarkable and distinguished American be honored appropriately.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Major General Marcia Anderson for her deep personal commitment to protecting democracy, recognize her willingness to sacrifice her own personal safety and comfort to ensure the well-being of her fellow Americans, and congratulate her upon being conferred the rank of Major General.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Major General Marcia Anderson.
