A RESOLUTION


Commending Mr. Dewey Loren McClain and inviting him to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Dewey Loren McClain was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in psychology, government, sociology, and physical education from East Central University in 1976; and

WHEREAS, he signed as a free agent with the National Football League in 1976 and played for the Atlanta Falcons for five years and signed with the United States Football League and played for the Oakland Invaders and the Oklahoma Outlaws; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McClain is a founding member and former president of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) Metro Atlanta Chapter and a past member of the National Former Players Board of Directors of the NFLPA; and

WHEREAS, his community service activities include the American Foundation for the Blind, the Sickle Cell Foundation, the Special Olympics, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Georgia Council on Child Abuse, Boy Scouts of America, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, he retired from the City of Atlanta after 22 years of service, 18 years with the Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs and four years with the Atlanta Workforce Development Agency; and

WHEREAS, Mr. McClain has been honored numerous times, including as an Outstanding College Athlete of America in 1973; All Conference in 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1975; and the recipient of the 2012 MLK Jr. March Committee Reverend James Orange Award, and he was inducted into the ECU College Hall of Fame in 1981, the Freedom Bowl Hall of Fame in 1985, the Oklahoma High School Hall of Fame in 1998, and Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine's Hall of Fame in 2009; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to his high school sweet heart, Linda Evans, and together they are blessed with two remarkable daughters, LeResa and Brandy, and three wonderful grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as evidenced dramatically by his superlative service; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Mr. Dewey Loren McClain for his efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and invite him to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Dewey Loren McClain.
