A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Robert Townsend Voyles, Sr.; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Robert Townsend Voyles, Sr., on March 19, 2010;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Voyles was born on August 4, 1926, in Atlanta, Georgia, a beloved son of the
late Addie and James Homer Voyles, Sr.; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Air Force, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans
during World War II; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Voyles earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia
Institute of Technology, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity,
and was a management consultant for 40 years; and
WHEREAS,
an Eagle Scout and life-long Mason, Mr. Voyles owned and operated a successful
dairy farm for many years named Tonka Farms; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Voyles was on the board of directors for Miss Georgia Dairies and was an
avid pilot, fondly referring to his Cessna Skylane 182 as "Sugar";
and
WHEREAS,
he was united in love and marriage for 58 wonderful years to Betty Voyles and
was blessed with two wonderful children, Vicki and Robert, and remarkable
grandsons, Justin and Kevin; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others;
and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Voyles will long be remembered for his
love of Georgia Tech football, farming, family, and friendship, and this loyal
husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend will be missed by all who had
the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Robert Townsend Voyles,
Sr., and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his
passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Robert Townsend Voyles, Sr.
