A RESOLUTION


Honoring the life and memory of Mr. Louis John Fortuna; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens with the passing of Mr. Louis John Fortuna on May 19, 2008; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fortuna was born on January 19, 1917, in Manchester, New Hampshire, and was affectionately known as "Pop" to family and friends; and

WHEREAS, he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946 and with the United States Naval Reserve for 20 years, where he retired as commander; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fortuna earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity, graduated from Georgetown Law School, and served as a recruiter for Dartmouth College for a number of years; and

WHEREAS, a banker who loved his profession, Mr. Fortuna was an employee of C&S National Bank from 1948 to 1972, where he retired as president of the Nations Bank of Sandy Springs, was a co-founder of the Consumer Credit Counseling Service, and taught classes at the University of Georgia School of Banking; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Fortuna was united in love and marriage for 59 wonderful years to the late Louise Harman Fortuna, and was blessed with the love of his children, Kenneth Fortuna, Lucile and Don Carter, Don and Genevieve Fortuna, and Lee and David Glover, and numerous grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, he and his wife were active members of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church and the couples class for many years and he was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville; and
WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and

WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and

WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Fortuna will long be remembered for his love of family and friendship, and this loyal brother, father, grandfather, and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Louis John Fortuna and express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Louis John Fortuna.
