A
RESOLUTION
Commending
the faculty, staff, students, and Board Chairman Dr. Michael C. Markovitz of
Atlanta's John Marshall Law School; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Atlanta's John Marshall Law School was founded in 1933 as the Law School of the
South and was later renamed in honor of our most famous Supreme Court Chief
Justice; and
WHEREAS,
for the past 76 years, the school has served Atlanta and the State of Georgia as
an opportunity law school for nontraditional or adult learners; and
WHEREAS,
Atlanta's John Marshall Law School demonstrates a history of integration and
diversity among its student body and has produced excellent lawyers with a
social conscience; and
WHEREAS,
with a current enrollment of 560 law students, Atlanta's John Marshall Law
School offers aspiring lawyers full-time and part-time programs with 36
full-time professors; and
WHEREAS,
the mission of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School is to prepare highly competent
and professional lawyers who possess a strong social conscience, continually
demonstrate high ethical standards, and are committed to the improvement of the
legal system and society; and
WHEREAS,
the school offers an intellectually rigorous academic program, with
opportunities for professional skills education, and provides access to a
high-quality program of legal education by maintaining a flexible program of
full-time and part-time law study; and
WHEREAS,
students of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School are prepared to anticipate and
adapt to future developments in the law and instilled with the highest sense of
the professionalism and ethical and moral responsibilities required of members
of the legal profession; and
WHEREAS,
the faculty of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School are dedicated to achieving the
highest standards of classroom teaching, scholarship that informs their
teaching, and service to the legal community; and
WHEREAS,
academic support programs are offered to students from diverse educational
backgrounds, and students are encouraged to engage in pro bono activities and to
provide legal services to historically underserved communities upon their
admission to the Bar; and
WHEREAS,
the American Bar Association granted Atlanta's John Marshall Law School full
approval in 2009, and it continues to demonstrate strength, purpose, and
excellence for legal education in Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Atlanta's John Marshall Law School as a superb provider of
legal education and congratulate its faculty, staff, students, and Board
Chairman Dr. Michael C. Markovitz on the school's achievement of accreditation
from the American Bar Association.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dean Richard
Lynn of Atlanta's John Marshall Law School.
