RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. John Berry and inviting him to be recognized by the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. John Berry, born in South Carolina and raised in Georgia, began playing the
guitar at 13, performing in shows at 14, and recording records when he was 19
years old; and
WHEREAS,
between 1979 and 1990, Mr. Berry recorded and marketed six albums on his own
labels, which brought him strong regional popularity and caught the attention of
Capitol Records, which signed him in 1992; and
WHEREAS,
his stunning performance on the title track of the 1995 CD,
O Holy
Night, catapulted Mr. Berry's career and
garnered him national acclaim; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Berry is known for the intense passion he has brought to country music hits,
such as "Your Love Amazes Me" and "Standing on the Edge of Goodbye";
and
WHEREAS,
his new CD, Those Were
the Days, draws in audiences with soulful
lyrics and gospel music flair in one of the strongest collections of songs he
has ever assembled; and
WHEREAS,
in Those Were the
Days, Mr. Berry returns to mainstream
country music, and the albums first single, "A Woman Like You," is attracting
audiences with its clever lyrics, chopping rhythms, and rocking mood;
and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of
this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. John Berry on his amazing music career and invite him to
be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be
determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. John
Berry.
