A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Samuel Cooper Inman; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Samuel Cooper Inman on August 23, 2010; and
WHEREAS,
a fifth generation Atlantan, Mr. Inman was the beloved son of Mildred Cooper
Inman and Hugh T. Inman, the grandson of Emily Caroline MacDougald Inman and
Edward H. Inman, builders of the Swan House, and the great-grandson of Samuel M.
Inman, one of the founders of the Georgia Institute of Technology and Agnes
Scott College; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Army, valiantly and courageously protecting his fellow Americans during
World War II as a recruit instructor; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Inman earned a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Georgia
and upon his graduation joined the MacDougald Construction Company, where he
participated in building the first sections of interstate highways through
downtown Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
he served as president of the Georgia Highway Contractors Association and led
the organization as its treasurer for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS,
during his career Mr. Inman was responsible for projects in Georgia, Alabama,
and Florida, and led special large scale bridge and subway projects in Mobile,
Alabama; Alexandria, Virginia; and Baltimore, Maryland; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Inman was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club, the Capital City Club, the
Commerce Club, the Racquet Club, the Society of Colonial Wars, the 300 Club of
Atlanta, the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and the Military and
Hospitaller Order of St. Lazarus of Jerusalem; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Inman was united in love and marriage to Florence Ricker Inman, and was
blessed with two remarkable children, Edward and John, and a wonderful
step-daughter, Hallie; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Inman will long be remembered for his love
of family and friendship, and this loyal husband, brother, father, grandfather,
and friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join in honoring the life and memory of Mr. Samuel Cooper Inman and
express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Mr. Samuel Cooper Inman.
