RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Georgia Women of Achievement and 2011 honoree Lillian Gordy
Carter; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Georgia Women of Achievement was established to publicize achievements of
Georgia women through an annual induction ceremony, a traveling exhibit, a
website, and a teacher resource guide; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia Women of Achievement provides information about role models to inspire
Georgia youth and advocates the inclusion of women's achievements in educational
materials; and
WHEREAS,
each year, Georgia Women of Achievement honor three women who lived a life that
inspired others to make use of their talents and who made exceptional
contributions to society; and
WHEREAS,
the three honorees for 2011 were Lillian Gordy Carter, Mary Francis Coley, and
May duBignon Stiles Howard; and
WHEREAS,
the mother of President Jimmy Carter, Lillian Gordy Carter, set an example for
all women with her determination to make the world a better place;
and
WHEREAS,
whether it was by serving as a nurse in the Peace Corps in India or bridging
cultural gaps in rural Georgia, Lillian Gordy Carter's nursing skills and
compassion endeared her to many; and
WHEREAS,
the citizens of Georgia owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Georgia Women of
Achievement and 2011 honoree Lillian Gordy Carter for their many contributions
to their communities and this state and the positive role models they represent
for women of all ages.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Georgia Women of Achievement for promoting the great efforts
of women to improve the quality of life for all Americans and extend
congratulations to the family of 2011 honoree Lillian Gordy Carter.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Georgia Women
of Achievement and the family of Lillian Gordy Carter.
