RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Wilkinson County Middle School on its 2011 High-Flying School
Award; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Wilkinson County Middle School has been recognized with a 2011 High-Flying
School Award from the National Youth-At-Risk Conference and the National Network
for Educational Renewal; and
WHEREAS,
High-Flying schools demonstrate high achievement by ranking in the 75th
percentile or higher in at least three academic subjects in at least two grade
levels; and
WHEREAS,
in order to be recognized as a High-Flying school, a school's population must be
comprised of at least 50 percent of students living at or below poverty level as
defined by the federal lunch program for public schools with at least 50 percent
or more being minority students; and
WHEREAS,
a High-Flying school is one that demonstrates high levels of collaboration with
the community to address at-risk youth and provides opportunities for students
to develop citizenship skills at school and in the community; and
WHEREAS,
students who attend High-Flying schools are exposed to a curriculum that
includes objectives and activities that are related to the growth of students as
individuals and who are successful members of a democratic society;
and
WHEREAS,
Wilkinson County Middle School has maintained a proud tradition of excellence in
education through the outstanding efforts of the dedicated and hard-working
administration, faculty, and staff and the bright, focused, and determined
students; and
WHEREAS,
under the leadership of principal Dr. Angela Smith, Wilkinson County Middle
School enables students to learn with confidence, experience success, and
achieve their maximum potential; and
WHEREAS,
the teachers, administration, and staff of Wilkinson County Middle School work
diligently and conscientiously to ensure students have access to the training
and resources necessary to succeed and foster positive relationships and mutual
respect; and
WHEREAS,
by its example, Wilkinson County Middle School has set a standard of achievement
and a model of excellence and success for other schools to emulate;
and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia takes great pride in the diligent study and preparation
taken by the students of Wilkinson County Middle School and looks forward in
anticipation to the great achievements this school will accomplish in the
future.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Wilkinson County Middle School on its selection as a 2011
High-Flying School and commend its outstanding dedication and commitment to
excellence in education.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Wilkinson
County Middle School's principal, Dr. Angela Smith.
