A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Ashley Brown; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, despite the struggles Ashley Brown has faced in her life, she makes her many outstanding accomplishments appear effortless and carries herself with a quiet fortitude; and

WHEREAS, with the untimely loss of her mother when she was 12 and her father's military obligations calling him away when she was 15, Ashley handled tragedy and change in stride and went on to become a stellar student, school leader, and athlete; and

WHEREAS, currently a senior at Lumpkin County High School, Ashley has maintained a perfect attendance record, been placed on the honor roll, and been acknowledged for remarkable athletic abilities every school year since the seventh grade; and

WHEREAS, during her years at Lumpkin County High School, Ashley has held such leadership positions as vice president of the sophomore class, captain of the basketball team, and a candidate of the National Leadership Summit for two years; and

WHEREAS, Ashley holds several records for track and field at Lumpkin County High School, with the best performances in the triple jump, the 400, and the 4x400; and

WHEREAS, on January 31, 2009, Ashley made school history again as the all-time leading scorer for boy's or girl's basketball, making the new record to beat 1,410 points; and

WHEREAS, Ashley's athletic ability and skill have been recognized with several Most Valuable Player awards for basketball, and she has been featured in the Gainesville Times as an athlete of the week, was the subject of the article A Lesson in Character, and was named to the pre-season All-Star team; and

WHEREAS, Ashley serves as a shining example to her peers and neighbors of how, with dedication and determination, life's struggles and adversities can be overcome and greatness can result; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia looks with great anticipation toward the future of this bright and promising young citizen.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body heartily commend Ashley Brown for her spectacular scholastic and athletic endeavors and express to her their sincerest best wishes for continued success in the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ashley Brown.
