A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Major James Sellers; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Major James Sellers has served with honor and distinction as a member of the Atlanta Police Department and is an honest and dedicated public servant who strives for excellence in all his endeavors and whose primary concern is the welfare and safety of the citizens of Atlanta and Fulton County; and

WHEREAS, Major Sellers has held a number of positions with the Atlanta Police Department, including a traffic enforcement officer, a member of the RED DOG drug activity reduction unit, and a narcotics investigator; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure with the department, Major Sellers has supervised the auto theft unit, the larceny and major fraud unit, the robbery unit, the homicide unit, and the office of professional standards; and

WHEREAS, Major Sellers has received numerous accolades for his dedicated and effective service, including Supervisor of the Year in 2001 and the Crime Reduction Award in 2007; and

WHEREAS, he represented the Atlanta Police Department on the Stop Identity Theft Network, which was formed to increase public awareness of identity theft, recommend victim sensitive changes to identity frauds laws, and improve state-wide reporting methods; and

WHEREAS, Major Sellers is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and by state and local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the administration of justice and sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their gratitude for the unique and often unheralded contributions of Major Sellers and all local law enforcement officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the care, courage, and selfless dedication exhibited by Major James Sellers in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation for so many years and extend to him their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined for others the meaning of public servant.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Major James Sellers.
