A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Global Teachers Research and Resources, Inc., on the occasion of its tenth anniversary; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the economic future of the United States and Georgia is largely dependent on having quality teachers to educate and prepare students to live productive lives so as to become contributing members of our society; and

WHEREAS, for more than ten years, there has been a shortage of teachers in critical subjects including mathematics, science, special education, and foreign languages; and

WHEREAS, over the next decade, American schools will need 200,000 or more new teachers in just the subjects of science and mathematics; and

WHEREAS, having international teachers educating American students has a positive impact by exposing students to other countries, cultures, and languages and prepares them for success in our diverse society; and

WHEREAS, established in 2001, the mission of Global Teachers Research and Resources (GTRR) is to provide world-class educators who are highly qualified, well-trained, supported, and effective in educating students in the United States; and

WHEREAS, GTRR has been providing quality international teachers in the critical areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to expand learning opportunities for our students; and

WHEREAS, teachers who participate in GTRR are recruited from around the world, including Canada, South Africa, Australia, India, Colombia, and Dubai; and

WHEREAS, the first Atlanta-area placements of professional and highly-trained educators by GTRR was in Fulton County schools in 2003; and

WHEREAS, over the years GTRR has expanded its placements in Georgia to include the school systems of Clayton County, DeKalb County, Henry County, Walton County, Newton County, Fayette County, Atlanta Public Schools, and several smaller systems throughout this state; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding work of this fine organization and its numerous contributions to the citizens of this state be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Global Teachers Research and Resources, Inc., for its dedication to improving education for all Americans and congratulate the organization on the occasion of its tenth anniversary.
