RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Adam Murphy; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Emmy nominated CBS consumer investigative reporter Mr. Adam Murphy is well known
for his interesting and provocative news reporting while at the same time
providing practical advice and assistance to Georgians on various consumer
oriented issues; and
WHEREAS,
a native of Dunwoody, Georgia, Mr. Murphy is a Marist High School graduate and
earned a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from the University of
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
during his career in journalism, Mr. Murphy has been relied upon for fair and
accurate reporting by viewers of WMAZ-TV in Macon, Georgia; WLTX-TV in Columbia,
South Carolina; ESPN2; and WGCL-TV in Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
after he became aware of serious billing errors charged to water customers in
the City of Atlanta, with some customers having their water cut off through no
fault of their own, he began informing the public and government officials of
this situation with special reports on the newscasts of CBS Atlanta;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Murphy, the consumer investigative reporter, also became the people's
advocate, joining forces with the State Planning and Community Affairs Committee
of the Georgia House of Representatives and with Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin
for the common purpose of identifying the cause of the water billing errors and
finding a solution to the problem; and
WHEREAS,
such efforts have brought about a change in policy within the Department of
Watershed Management of the City of Atlanta, resulting in the correction of
numerous water billing errors affecting individuals and families within the City
of Atlanta, along with the recovery of over $808,000 for which the State of
Georgia had been over billed;
and
WHEREAS, in addition to demonstrating outstanding journalistic skill as the consumer investigative reporter for CBS Atlanta, Mr. Murphy is also known for his "Restaurant Report Card," providing helpful information to the public when dining out in the Atlanta area; and

WHEREAS,
Mr. Murphy has established himself as a professional journalist with a proven
record of providing Georgians with sound advice on consumer issues, has
demonstrated a willingness to assist those who need a helping hand, and has
proven to be a determined and dedicated champion of consumer protection for the
citizens of Atlanta and the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Adam Murphy for his unique, innovative, and solution
oriented journalism and recognize his long-time commitment to the citizens of
Atlanta and the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Adam
Murphy.
