A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Dr. Linda M. Johnston; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Dr. Linda M. Johnston has long been recognized for the vital role that she has played in higher education and her deep personal commitment to students; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston earned a bachelor's degree in dietetics and a master's degree in institutional administration from Michigan State University and a doctoral degree in conflict analysis and resolution from George Mason University; and

WHEREAS, she serves as executive director for Kennesaw State University's Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics, and Character and previously served as director and associate professor for the university's Master of Science in Conflict Management and the Center for Conflict Management program; and

WHEREAS, in addition to uplifting the lives of Kennesaw State students, Dr. Johnston has taught at George Mason University, Antioch University, and the National Taurida Vernadsky University; and

WHEREAS, she has been recognized with numerous honors and accolades, including a Teaching Excellence Award from the Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education, a fellowship from Hands Along the Nile, a Best Published Book Award from the International Association for Conflict Management, and a Sharing Knowledge for Peace Programme Award from the United Nations School for Peace; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Johnston has been invited to speak around the country on the issues of conflict resolution, labor relations, conflict analysis, coaching, conflict negotiation, reconciliation, and building peace programs; and

WHEREAS, she is a trained mediator, facilitator, and ombudsman and serves as president of the International Peace Research Association and Foundation; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the extraordinary accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Dr. Linda M. Johnston for her sacrifice, foresight, accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education and for the positive influence she has had upon the lives and futures of countless young people.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Linda M. Johnston.
