RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Monroe County Fire Chief Walter Thomas Carter on the occasion of
his retirement; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Monroe County Fire Chief Walter Thomas Carter has long been recognized by the
citizens of this state for the vital role that he has played in leadership and
his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
Chief Carter has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his
time, talents, and energy toward the betterment of his community and state as
evidenced dramatically by his superlative service with the Monroe County Fire
Department for 35 years; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Carter joined the Monroe County Fire Department in 1975 and has served as
fire chief since 1993, leading his crew in their protection of property and
lives and overseeing the expansion of personnel, equipment, and
responsibilities; and
WHEREAS,
as chief he handled an over 300 percent increase in call volume and moved the
department from a 100 year old building to a new million dollar state-of-the-art
fire station; and
WHEREAS,
he has been named Firefighter of the Year in Monroe County, has served as fire
inspector, has served as the City of Forsyth Soil and Erosion Control Officer,
and has served on the Monroe County Board of Tax Assessors; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Carter is an active member of the Cattleman's Association and participates
in the Gifts of Luv program, which helps needy families with food and gifts
during the holidays; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and has been a staple of life in
Forsyth for 50 years; and
WHEREAS,
Chief Carter has served with honor and distinction during his career as a fire
fighter and his vision and unyielding commitment will be sorely missed upon the
occasion of his retirement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
remarkable and distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Monroe County Fire Chief Walter Thomas Carter for his
efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the State of
Georgia; congratulate him upon the grand occasion of his retirement; and extend
to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Monroe County
Fire Chief Walter Thomas Carter.
