RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Motorcoach Operators Association and declaring February 9, 2010, as
Georgia Motorcoach Operators Association Day at the state capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motorcoach Operators Association (GMOA) was established in November,
2001, in order to organize bus owners and operators and enable them to have a
collective voice in promoting bus transportation; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia's private transportation industry is an important community business
partner in both the private and public sectors; and
WHEREAS,
for every dollar spent on transportation, between eight and 12 dollars are
returned to the local economy; and
WHEREAS,
GMOA companies provide charter services to federal, state, and local
governments, military bases, colleges and universities, school districts,
churches, and businesses; and
WHEREAS,
the private transportation industry is a pivotal member of emergency
preparedness plans, providing infrastructure rebuilding and evacuation
transportation services; and
WHEREAS,
private transportation companies make a huge contribution to Georgia's tourism
market, pumping millions of dollars annually into the economy of Georgia, with
an overnight stay in Georgia bringing in an average of $7,000.00 to $13,000.00
to local economies; and
WHEREAS,
the vital role that private transportation plays in the Georgia economy and the
dedicated work of the GMOA in representing the private transportation industry
are worthy of recognition.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Motorcoach Operators Association for their partnership efforts with the State of Georgia and declare February 9, 2010, as Georgia Motorcoach Operators Association Day at the state capitol.
