A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
March 12-18, 2012, as Fix a Leak Week at the capitol; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
water is a vital natural resource, provides for the most basic needs of our
citizens, and is essential to this state's economy; and
WHEREAS,
Georgia's rainfall continues to fluctuate year after year, making water
conservation efforts especially important; and
WHEREAS,
the Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority is in its 12th year of sponsoring the
waterSmart
program in efforts to maintain and encourage the contributions of efficient
water practices in metro Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
the Cobb County Water System is an ongoing partner with Cobb County-Marietta
Water Authority to further spread the conservation message; and
WHEREAS,
Cobb County-Marietta Water Authority and Cobb County Water System partnered with
the United States Environmental Protection Agency's WaterSense program and Cobb
County Water System have been awarded Promotional Partner of the Year for 2011;
and
WHEREAS,
the
waterSmart
and WaterSense programs teach residents and homeowners about water saving
practices by providing informational tips on saving water, retrofitting homes,
and
waterSmart
landscaping; and
WHEREAS,
the
waterSmart
and WaterSense programs are educating Georgians about conserving water by
finding and fixing in-home leaks which can add up to thousands of gallons of
water each year; and
WHEREAS,
each citizen plays a pivotal role in protecting the water supply of Georgia for
future generations, and it is essential for Georgian's to adopt water
conservation practices to continuously reduce water consumption.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
March 12-18, 2012, as Fix a Leak Week, commend Cobb County Water System and Cobb
County-Marietta Water Authority in partnership with the Environmental Protection
Agency for their initiatives to help conserve water for all Georgians and
promote the importance of year-round water conservation in all climatic
conditions.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the public and the press.
