A RESOLUTION


Congratulating Larry Gilpin upon his retirement from the United States Postal Service and the United States Army Reserves and commending him for his service to his country; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Larry Gilpin began his postal career in 1969 as a clerk, after completing three years of active duty with the United States Army in Europe, where his assignment was radio communications; and

WHEREAS, he rose through the ranks of the postal service, serving in various capacities and ultimately retiring as a Human Resources Specialist in the Learning Development and Diversity section; and

WHEREAS, in 1974, while working for the postal service, he rejoined the United States Army as a reservist, where he began with the rank of Sergeant (E-5) and ultimately rose to the rank of Command Sergeant Major (E-9), the highest noncommissioned officer rank attainable as an Army reservist, including serving as a Battalion Command Sergeant Major of the 7th Battalion (PSS) 108th 4th BDE, Decatur, Georgia, and 3rd Battalion (SC) 108th 3rd BDE, Fort Gordon, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he also graduated from the Career Academy School of Radio and Television Broadcasting and worked for several radio stations, including WAOK, WRFG, and WYZE, where his responsibilities included the newsroom, commercials, and broadcasting.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body congratulate Larry Gilpin upon his retirement from the United States Postal Service and the United States Army Reserves and commend him for his service to his country.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Larry Gilpin.
