RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the week of July 23, 2011, through August 1, 2011, as Family Memory Week; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Family Memory Week will spotlight the importance of focusing on celebrating
family time together and creating fun, positive, cherished memories;
and
WHEREAS,
Family Memory Week dovetails into the core spirit and mission of the Jack and
Jill Late Stage Cancer Foundation (JAJF); and
WHEREAS,
JAJF seeks to treat families to WOW! Experiences, giving children who will lose
their mom or dad to cancer a timeout to create indispensable memories together;
and
WHEREAS,
John and Jill Albert started JAJF in October 2006, and Jill sadly died of breast
cancer days before Thanksgiving 2006, a time typically reserved for families to
be together; and
WHEREAS,
JAJF has treated nearly 400 families across the nation to cherished time
together; and
WHEREAS,
JAJF now has 102 leading cancer hospitals and centers across this nation
referring families in 41 states; and
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
the devastating effects of cancer on children, commend the Jack and Jill Late
Stage Cancer Foundation for its continued efforts to provide precious memories
for these families, and recognize the week of July 23, 2011, through August 1,
2011, as Family Memory Week.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Jack and Jill Late
Stage Cancer Foundation.
