A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Mr. Jeff Malone on his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Jeff Malone's amazing basketball career has earned him induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, raised in Savannah, Georgia, Mr. Malone was a basketball standout at Southwest Macon High School, an integral force behind the school's undefeated season in 1978-1979 that earned the team a national championship title; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Southwest Macon High School, Mr. Malone went on to garner great acclaim and success at Mississippi State University, averaging 19.5 points per game during his four years at the school, and was named the SEC Player of the Year and an All-American in 1982-1984; and

WHEREAS, this talented athlete led the Bulldogs in scoring for three straight seasons and holds the school's records for points in a single season with 777 and in a career with 2,142; and

WHEREAS, upon his graduation from Mississippi, Mr. Malone played in the NBA for 13 seasons with Washington, Utah, Philadelphia, and Miami; and

WHEREAS, during his years with the NBA, Mr. Malone averaged 19 points per game, made 48.4 percent of his shots, and was a two-time all-star and all-rookie pick; and

WHEREAS, after retiring from the NBA in 1996, Mr. Malone continued his career in basketball, coaching in the NBA's Development League with the Columbus Riverdragons and the Florida Flame; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding athletic achievements, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary commitment and accomplishments of Mr. Malone.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Jeff Malone for his years of hard work and perseverance in basketball, recognize his stellar career in the NBA, and congratulate him on his induction into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Jeff Malone.
