A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the Gwinnett Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is a voluntary, nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization that has a reputation for leading positive social change by harnessing the individual and collective power of its members to improve the lives of residents of the United States and Georgia as they age; and

WHEREAS, the Gwinnett Chapter of AARP exists to provide a channel through which its members can engage in meaningful community service, live a high-quality lifestyle, and attain maximum self-realization and enrichment; and

WHEREAS, Gwinnett AARP is a member of the Gwinnett Council for Seniors that was created in 1976 and now serves as an umbrella organization for the over 30 local senior groups and clubs; and

WHEREAS, chartered in 1975, the Gwinnett AARP has a rich tradition of fostering equal opportunities for older Americans by promoting their continued growth and development, self-respect, and self-confidence by encouraging their participation in contemporary life; and

WHEREAS, the chapter encourages those 50 and over to try new, useful, and creative activities in order to enhance their life fulfillment and improve their overall well-being; and

WHEREAS, the Gwinnett Chapter of the AARP and its members exemplify the belief that diversity in age, economic status, attitudes, ability, and lifestyles is a source of strength for this state and nation, and their many contributions to their community and state are worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Gwinnett Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons on its outstanding community service and involvement.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Gwinnett Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons.
