A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. James Cecil Nobles; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. James Cecil Nobles was born on February 25, 1935, in Long County, Georgia,
and graduated from Ludowici High School in 1953; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nobles earned an associate's degree from Brewton Parker College, a
bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia Teachers College, and
a master's degree in education from Georgia Southern University;
and
WHEREAS,
for nearly a decade, Mr. Nobles taught in the Long County Public School System,
dedicating his days to educating the youth of Long County and serving as an
important role model and leader in the lives of children; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nobles was elected Sheriff of Long County in 1968, and, at the time, was one
of the few sheriffs in Georgia to hold a college degree and the only one to hold
a master's degree; and
WHEREAS,
in 2001, Highway 301 North near Mr. Nobles's residence was renamed in his honor
as "Cecil Nobles Highway"; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nobles has served as Long County Sheriff for over 40 years, having been
re-elected ten times; and
WHEREAS,
a dedicated and hard-working public servant, Mr. Nobles currently stands as the
second longest serving sheriff in the United States and the longest serving
sheriff in the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nobles has been united in love and marriage to Peggy D. Nobles for 50 years
and the two are blessed with three loving and remarkable sons, five wonderful
grandchildren, and two beautiful great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Nobles is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by
local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication
to the sound principles of law enforcement; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the members of this body show their
gratitude for the unique and courageous contributions of local law enforcement
officers on behalf of the citizens of this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
the care, fortitude, and selfless dedication exhibited by Mr. James Cecil Nobles
in carrying out the difficult duties of his vocation for over four decades and
extend to him their utmost appreciation for having so purely and truly defined
for others the meaning of public servant.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. James Cecil Nobles.
